Over the past two months, we've covered a few ways to use SOS Mix. It makes fabulous Hamburger Helper for a fraction of the cost and better nutrition, plus rotating your food storage. Now let's turn our attention to a few different sauces that can be made quickly with SOS Mix as well.
Alfredo Sauce
1/3 cup SOS Mix
1 1/4 cups water
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup sour cream
1/8 teaspoon pepper
dash nutmeg
In a small pan combine all ingredients. Mix well and cook over low heat until thickened. Serve over cooked noodles.
Pizza Sauce
1/3 cup SOS Mix
1/4 cup water
1 cup tomato sauce
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
In a small pan combine all ingredients. Mix well and cook over low heat until thickened. Spread sauce on pizza dough.
Family review: We didn't actually like this one. We like our tomato sauce much more tomato-ey. This was kind of blah. But nowhere near as blah as the sauce on a pizza I had in the Soviet Union in 1987. You want to know why Russians don't smile? Their pizza sauce is blah.
Cheese Sauce
1/3 cup SOS Mix
1 1/4 cups water
1 cup grated cheese
Combine SOS Mix and water in a small pan over low heat. Cook until thickened, and then stir in grated cheese and remove from heat.
Gravy
2 tablespoons fat (from meat, butter, or other fat)
1/2 cup SOS Mix
2 cups meat drippings or other liquid (milk, bouillon, water)
In a medium saucepan, combine fat and SOS mix over low heat, stirring well. When mixture is smooth and bubbly, stir in other liquid. Cook and stir until thickened, and then an additional two to three minutes.
Reviews for all of these recipes are mixed within my family. Some favor using Magic Mix, and some like this SOS Mix. It's so important for you to try these out now, get really comfortable with them, and then be able to make what your family likes best.
