Homemade Wheaties

I have never, ever been a fan of Wheaties.  In fact, for most of my life, the best thing about Wheaties has been the box.  I liked that they usually had photos of great athletes.  Not that I ever paid that much attention.

But certain members of my family like Wheaties, and as I mentioned last week in the post about making Homemade Grape Nuts, I am not a morning person.  Having a little cold cereal on hand is a lifesaver.

Homemade Wheat Flakes
2 cups coarsely ground whole wheat flour
2 cups water
1 teaspoon salt

Mix ingredients with a spoon or fork until no lumps remain.  Pour onto cookie sheet or jelly roll pan.  Use about 2/3 cup batter on a 13x18" cookie sheet.  Tip the pan back and forth to cover the entire surface, using a spatula to spread it if necessary. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes, or until darkened.  Break into bite-sized pieces.

Yeah, that was easy.

Taste testers comments:  The son who will eat anything says that most people want some sugar in their cereal, but he likes them just fine.
